PCB Soldering Basics

Solder clean joints on PCBs

This guide covers iron setup, tip care, flux use, soldering through-hole and basic SMD parts, and inspecting joints for quality.

Set up tools

Use a temperature-controlled iron, tip cleaner, flux, solder, and fume extraction.

Prepare joints

Tin the iron tip, apply flux to pads, and insert components securely.

Solder technique

Heat pad and lead together, feed solder to the joint, and remove iron smoothly.

Inspect and clean

Look for shiny, concave joints; fix bridges and clean flux residue where needed.
