Dual Boot Setup Basics

Install a second OS alongside the first

This guide explains setting up a dual-boot system: back up data, shrink/create partitions, install the second OS, configure the bootloader, and test both systems.

Back up first

Save important data before touching partitions or bootloaders.

Plan partitions

Shrink existing volume and create space for the new OS; note EFI partitions.

Install second OS

Boot install media, select the new partition, and avoid overwriting existing OS.

Configure bootloader

Use GRUB/boot manager to detect both OSes; test booting each.
